Aspelt, 13th May 2015. In Spring 2014, the express logistics company Flash brought a GPS tracking solution to the pan-European market based on an app which was developed in-house. Contracting, communication and the fully automatic tracking of drivers all take place using a smartphone. Flash is informed about the vehicle's status and position at all times. This makes the logistics company's scheduling a highly efficient operation. From the onset the choice is clear which is the best vehicle for the job.. At present around 2,000 vehicles and all exclusive partners in the Flash system are fitted with a mobile device. Already today around half of all consignments is managed via this app and growth rates are climbing. “The increase in the number of users is impressive. For example, in the past four months we’ve reported 25 percent of new Flash-Track users", says Ignacio Tirado, Innovation Manager with Flash who has managed this project for over a year now, and to which he adds "It's great to see such a positive response from the market, which, amongst other factors, we attribute to the fact that it definitely adds value for all players: drivers, Flash and clients.”

- Standard communication between the dispatcher and the driver takes place via the app
- Information on availability and the current status can be seen immediately
- The dispatcher and the driver can exchange data and information via the app effortlessly (e.g. inform about delays, traffic jams, etc.)
- Automated translations of the standard communication help to avoid language barriers
- Transmitting the entire order data, including the address and references also takes place via the app
- Additional functions such as scanning, signatures, pictures of the shipment, or CMR upload ensure flexibility and a high degree of reliability for the customer.

"Easy and optimized processing and higher quality are just some of the major benefits for our customers," explains Philippe Higelin, CEO. "Problems can be identified much earlier so we can react much faster and offer our customers an alternative solution." Updates are available for customers on the customer portal in real-time. "Extensions for the app also enable us to address customer-specific processes at all times," adds Philippe Higelin.
"From our point of view Flash Track is by far superior to conventional fleet solutions," says Flash CIO Florian Kemmerling, explaining why Flash decided to go for its own solution. "If the partner already has a smartphone - which is practically the rule these days - it costs neither us nor our partners anything extra. The app can be downloaded from the mobile application store in just a few minutes and there are no monthly costs. The driver can get going straightaway. The smartphone is flexible and not just fixed to one vehicle. For instance, it can be taken to where the goods are handed over and, thanks to the automated translation, the information can be shown to the loading agent in his own language. "Camera and touchscreen enable additional functions such as scanning or signatures," says the IT manager, summarising the benefits.
