- Increase in frequency of the TransFER service between Linz, Wels and Duisburg to four round trips a week
- Direct connection to the Port of Duisburg with links to intercontinental supply chains from Europe to Asia
- Green traction current from renewable energy sources along the entire route
Due to high demand, the OBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) is increasing the frequency of its intermodal TransFER service Linz-Wels-Duisburg to four round trips a week from the 5th April. The RCG is enhancing its offer for FCL (Full Container Load) and FTL (Full Truck Load) transport between Austria and Germany with a fixed timetable and attractive transit times. Furthermore, the green traction current used in Austria and Germany makes transport services on this route especially climate friendly.
The non-stop TransFER Linz-Wels-Duisburg is a key service in the RCG's intermodal network that connects important economic hubs. With its antenna connections to Vienna and on to Budapest, this service is the gateway to all of Southeast Europe. From Duisburg, this route opens up links to the ports of Northwest Europe, such as the Port of Rotterdam (from Maasvlakte I and II to the RSC Terminal Rotterdam) as well as the ports in Antwerp and Zeebrugge.
The Port of Duisburg - a logistics hub
The Port of Duisburg is one of the world's largest inland ports and a key logistics hub for Europe and beyond. It takes on even greater intercontinental significance on account of its strong links to the "Iron Silk Road" (the rail-borne Silk Road) in the Far East. The TransFER Linz-Wels-Duisburg runs four times a week. With its end-to-end network connections and links to Budapest via Vienna, this service has a lot to offer. Its links to the terminals "Duisburg DIT" and "D3T" at the Port of Duisburg also facilitate handling for cranable containers and trailers.
Certified green electricity for the RCG in Austria and Germany
In order to keep driving forward the green shift in the transport industry, the OBB Rail Cargo Group is investing in clean energy sources for its traction current. In Austria, all of the RCG's freight trains have already been running on electricity from renewable energy sources since summer 2018. As of 01/01/2021, all network TransFER services as well as all other products in Germany where traction is provided by Rail Cargo Group are now running exclusively on green electricity.
